Let's start it off as always with the transactions, injuries, news and notes from around the league.

We had just one IL placement as first baseman Pavin Smith was placed on the 10-day IL with left elbow inflammation.

Yildemarro Vargas will see the majority of playing time at DH as he filled in for Paven Smith in the

first game without him.

But I'd expect the regulars in the Diamondbacks lineup to get quasi days off in that role.

So we'll see a lot of players filtering in through that DH role until Pavin Smith returns.

Jose Fernandez was recalled for the miners in a

corresponding move and will act as a utility infielder for the Diamondbacks. In terms of transactions,

the Giants made a pair of trades acquiring right-handed reliever Dylan Smith from the Tigers

and sending outfielder Luis Matos to the Brewers. They designated Tyler Fitzgerald for assignment to make room for Dylan Smith.

They had already DFA Luis Matos to open the season.

Both of these moves were in exchange for cash considerations.

And it's pretty interesting, just considering that Matos was a top prospect for the Giants

for a while, sort of given up on him, even though he's still

only 24. He just never really got it going in the majors. There's a lot of outfield talent for the
