Margaret means pearl, and according to her confessor, that's exactly what she was, rare,

pure, and radiant.

Born a princess in England, Margaret fled to Scotland after the Norman conquest,

and married King Malcolm III in 1070.

Now, royal courts don't usually lend themselves to holiness,

but Margaret was also no ordinary queen.

She was known for her deep prayer life, her wisdom,

and her love for both God and her people. She didn't just pray. She acted. She built churches
