welcome to tech crunch daily news a roundup of the top tech news of the day. The two big content recommendation companies

consolidate, Microsoft unvails a whole bunch of new hardware, and startups take the

stage at Disrupt S.

Here's your daily crunch for October 3rd, 2019.

First up, publisher AdTech startups, Tabula and Outbrain,

are merging in an 850 million dollar deal to take on Google and Facebook.

The content recommendation rivals, who are, shall we say, not exactly known for the high quality

of their recommendations, are merging to form a single company.

While the companies describe the deal as a merger, the combined entity will be called

Tabula, with Tabula's founder Adam Sengolda securing the CEO slot.

Further, Tabula is paying outbrain investors $250 million in cash,

plus a 30% share of the combined companies.

In hardware news, during Microsoft's Surface event yesterday, most of the rumors panned
