Equities plummeted worldwide today,

with the first signs of distress coming from Asia.

Later, the carnage in European stocks

showing today would be a full-on market blowout.

U.S. stocks suffered as well with the Dow Jones down over 6%, with the S&P having one of the worst days this year.

But today I want to cover the root cause of a lot of this mayhem, the ongoing

spread of the coronavirus and the efforts to contain it. In the US, several states have experienced

large jumps in their daily confirmed cases. While part of that is due to an increase in testing, part of that

is directly linked to the reopening. According to Banner Health, the largest

medical network in Arizona, on June 8th the amount of COVID-19 patients who needed

ventilators increased by 400%.

As a result, their ICU facilities are starting to reach max capacity.

As of Monday, according to CNN, 76% of ICU beds were occupied.

Last week, Dr. Kara Christ, Arizona's Department of Health Services Director, sent a letter
