| 0:00.0 | Today is the 22nd day of May. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is wonderful |
| 0:12.4 | to be here with you today as we gather around the global campfire and take the next step |
| 0:19.1 | forward together. We're kind of flipping the page here as we get going today because |
| 0:24.2 | we concluded the book of 1st Samuel yesterday. And the way that the book of 1st Samuel ends is |
| 0:33.2 | that David and his men are going into battle against Israel. They're going into battle as |
| 0:40.0 | Philistines. When they are sent home, not allowed to go into battle because the Philistines are |
| 0:47.0 | worried that during the battle, David and his men will turn on the Philistines and that will cement him |
| 0:53.3 | in the good graces of Israel's king and David will hand a lot of dead Philistines over to Israel |
| 0:59.6 | in the process. So they won't let them go into battle, they won't let them go into battle. |
| 1:04.4 | They send them home to Zicklag, the town that they were given. When they get to Zicklag, they find |
| 1:11.3 | that the Amalakites have raided all throughout the region and have burned their town down and |
| 1:16.6 | everything away. And so David and his men go in pursuit and are able to recover everything. |
| 1:26.6 | Meanwhile though, there was a battle brewing up in the north, a battle that David was sent away from, |
| 1:34.8 | a battle that subsequently occurred and the Philistines were victorious. And in the process |
| 1:44.7 | of being victorious, they were successful in killing Israel's first king, King Saul. |
| 1:54.6 | And his sons, the princes of Israel, Jonathan, Abinadab and Melchishua. And of course Jonathan and David |
| 2:05.2 | were deeply, deeply close friends. David doesn't know all of this has happened yet. |
| 2:14.3 | He's had his hands full because they got back and their town was burned and they had to deal with |
| 2:20.6 | an issue of their own and recovering their families. So David doesn't know that Saul is dead |
| 2:28.4 | or that his friend Jonathan is dead. As we turn the page now and prepare to begin second Samuel, |
| 2:38.5 | our focus will become upon David. Whereas first Samuel led us through the life and times of King Saul |
| 2:48.8 | and introduced us to David and how he became famous and how Saul became so deeply paranoid about David. |
