It's wonderful to be here with you today, today and every day.

As we gather each day to do what we do, take the next step forward.

That always leads us to where we left off so that we can take the next step forward.

And that leads us back into the book of First Kings, which we're just getting moved into.

King David is nearing the end of his life.

There has been some drama about who will take his place when he dies.

That has turned out to be Solomon.

And so let's pick up the story.

First Kings, chapter 2, verse 1 through 3, verse 2, today.

When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son.

I am about to go the way of all the earth, he said.

So be strong. Act like a man. And observe what the Lord your God requires.

Walk in obedience, damn. And keep his decrees and commands.

His laws and regulations has written in the law of Moses.

Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.

And that the Lord may keep his promise to me.

If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me,

with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.

Now you yourself know what Joab son of Ziraya did to me.
