Today is the fifth day of July. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I'm Brian. It's great to be here with you today. Once again, here we are around the global campfire. Once again, taking another step.

Something that we do every single day, because the Bible is not just a book to read it's something to be

in a relationship with is a day by day step by step. We continue to interact with the scriptures.

We have wound our way through the books of kings now, first and second Kings.

So today we're beginning

first and second Chronicles,

and it's going to seem like we're going back

through the same territory.

Not absolutely sure who wrote the books of Chronicles.

The Jewish tradition going way back indicates Ezra as at least one of the authors and an early

dating like 450-425 BC would put Ezra in the running to be the author but there's a lot of

conjecture a lot of scholarship even modern scholarship indicating maybe Chronicles is a much later retelling of what the books of Kings or chronicling

Which would make Chronicles like a commentary on Kings, a look back over time after

exile.

So the books of Kings brought us into the exiles of the Northern and Southern kingdoms.

And so the thought is that Chronicles is a commentary on that earlier time, post, or during exile.

Either way, First and Second Chronicles,

will cover a lot of the same territory

that we've covered in First Samuel,

and Second Samuel, and then First and Second Kings, but it is coming from a different perspective.

We'll be looking at this history from a priestly perspective and have a kind of priestly view on what happened in a priestly view of the Kings.

So we've just completed Second Kings and we've seen that the children of Israel are in exile.
