Today is the fifth day of January. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is fantastic to be here with you as we gather around the Global Campfire for day 5 our fifth step together in a row.

In our first four days we have covered some significant territory in the Bible and so we see just how remarkably poignant it can be.

While we are also finally, we are finally kind of moved in. We have got a rhythm established now and we have flown over all the different books that we are engaging with right now and so we just settle in and take the next step forward which will obviously lead us back into the book of Genesis.

Today Genesis 11 verse 1 through 13 verse 4.

At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. As the people migrated to the east they found a plane in the land of Babylonia and settled there.

They began saying to each other, let's make bricks and harden them with fire. In this region bricks were used instead of stone and tar was used for mortar.

Then they said, come let's build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.

But the Lord came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building.

Look he said, the people are united and they all speak the same language. After this nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them.

Come, let's go down and confuse the people with different languages and they won't be able to understand each other.

That way the Lord scattered them all over the world and they stopped building the city. That is why the city was called Babel because that is where the Lord confused the people with different languages.

This way he scattered them all over the world.

This is the account of Shem's family. Two years after the Great Flood, when Shem was 100 years old he became the father of Arfaxad.

After the birth of Arfaxad, Shem lived another 500 years and had other sons and daughters.

When Arfaxad was 35 years old he became the father of Shila. After the birth of Shila, Arfaxad lived another 403 years and had other sons and daughters.

When Shila was 30 years old he became the father of Iber. After the birth of Iber, Shila lived another 403 years and had other sons and daughters.

When Iber was 34 years old he became the father of Pelleg. After the birth of Pelleg Iber lived another 430 years and had other sons and daughters.

When Pelleg was 30 years old he became the father of Roo. After the birth of Roo, Pelleg lived another 209 years and had other sons and daughters.

When Roo was 32 years old he became the father of Saroo. After the birth of Saroo, Roo lived another 207 years and had other sons and daughters.

When Saroo was 30 years old he became the father of Neor. After the birth of Neor Saroo lived another 200 years and had other sons and daughters.

When Neor was 29 years old he became the father of Teor. After the birth of Teor, Neor lived another 119 years and had other sons and daughters.

After Teor was 70 years old he became the father of Abram, Neor and Haran.
