Summary

Modern-day revelation is a contentious topic among Christians. Does God continue to reveal His will to His prophets or have His followers received all they need as found in the Bible? Joseph Smith went against the prevailing thoughts of the day by helping God restore a Church with an open canon of scripture. For this belief there was much persecution. In this episode, viewers will discover the history of the coming forth of the Doctrine and Covenants. Understand the problems modern-day revelation created for the early Saints and why persecution could be found both inside and outside of the Church.

1:18.9	see the hard questions that dealt with this time period in 1831. If Joseph were inspired
1:25.2	to receive the Word of God, especially as commandments, why is his writing so unpolished?
1:32.3	And why did the name change from the Book of Commandments to the Book of Doctrine Covenants?
1:38.3	Why is they using words like Synagogue in Section 68 and Alma and Moroni and these words that mean something very different to us,
1:47.0	at least now. So welcome back to the 19th century as we try to define these and I'll start right now
1:52.5	with the word synagogue. 54 times. And if you look up in the Joseph Smith papers, you can see
1:58.1	Joseph using this word. And right here in section 68, he says, as the Lord's
2:04.1	telling him what's happening, the revelation says from land to land and from congregation of the wicked
2:09.2	in their synagogues. And well, that can sound terrible if it's taken out of context. But what
2:15.6	he's talking about is gathering Israel and the saints
