It was a fine, crisp fall afternoon, the perfect kind of day for a bike ride through a graveyard. That's how

Todd Keller felt. So he hopped on his bike and peddled over from Rogers Park to Rose Hill Cemetery

on Chicago's far north side. I figured I could slip in with my camera and shoot a few shots.

Todd's a big fan of Rose Hill.

It's a 350-acre island of calm green in a sea of urban density.

Peaceful, beautiful.

Its pads whip and whined around the elaborate graves

of former Chicago mayors, civil war soldiers,

and a U.S. vice president.

Todd was excited, but then...

I made it maybe a hundred yards in when a maintenance vehicle pulled up.

Told me I must leave now.

Take that bike out of the cemetery.

Bikes weren't allowed, they said.

Bye-bye.

Which kind of bothered Todd, because cars were allowed.

But should you ride a silent, non-polluting vehicle, and they will stop you immediately?

Todd did what he was told.

But even several years later, it still nags at him.

He's noticed other cemeteries with the same rule.
