So this week, Pat and I went to a birthday party, surprise, get together, or a friend of ours for their 40th birthday.

And it got me to thinking, what is the proper etiquette in terms of gifts that I need to purchase and spend money on for these sorts of events?

Like, what is my obligation? Can I go to purchase and spend money on for these sorts of events. Like what is my obligation?

Can I go to these sorts of gatherings without having to like buy a card and a gift?

Or am I expected to buy and bring something?

And if I am, what am I expected to bring?

It's not clear to me, we know. We're going to have several of these

over the next couple of years as people begin to hit milestone birthdays. And I was like,

what is the social expectation on me when I attend these things? So, I just did this for a year.

I was going to say, I think that there is none. There is no social obligation for a card or hell,

even a gift at this point for someone turning 40 or even 39 or 41 or whatever. You want to get them something? Like I have a friend, I hope he's not listening to this, I got him a special gift for his 40th birthday because I know it's something that he would really like. And so I got it. I don't think I've given him a birthday gift in 10 years or however long it's been, but I saw something that I knew that he would like. So I bought it for him. I'm going to give it to him at his birthday party. But like for the 40th birthday we just went to, all of us had basically the same idea for the gift that we were going to bring. I didn't bring a card, Jeff. I just got him 10 like peel off like cherry scratcher type things. Just gave it to him because I know we'd like it. Yeah, I bought a scratch. I bought him a scratch ticket. Tim, I think there's the demarcation here. Firstly, if it's a good friend having a milestone, like not all gifts need to be equal. I got something like sentimental and important to one of my lifelong friends and someone else who I'm good friends with, but I don't have like that sort of connection with.

I just got them a bottle of booze.

If someone is inviting you into their home or they are, I mean, especially to their home to celebrate their birthday, you absolutely bring them a gift.

If someone is, if you are going to a restaurant and someone is feeding you and getting

drinks, like paying for food and drinks, I believe you should get them a gift.

The level of gift is strictly based on the relationship you feel like you have with the person.

But if someone is opening their home to you to celebrate a birthday, I mean, this kind of
