that the room next to his is free.

He decides to move in, but on his very first night there, he realizes that he's perhaps not

as alone as he thinks.

This is a scary story that I really experienced in a wooden, run-down two-story apartment building

called Hikari Manor in the Shimokitazawa neighborhood

of Tokyo.

This Hikari Manor, it looked just like a dirty lump of wood, and if it wasn't for the laundry

hanging from the second floor window, then you would think it was abandoned.

And the person who lived there was my friend.

He was the only person who still lived in the building, and the landlord seemed to use

the other rooms simply as storage.

At the time, I was often in Shimokitazawa for drinking parties, and because I usually

missed the last train of the night, I stayed at his place a lot.
