This time of year, we are watching lots of NBA and NHL playoffs, major league baseball games,

and American and European soccer. We are extremely excited for the World

Cup that is just a few weeks away, and it will be held in the United States for the first time

since 1994 when I was about Olivia's age. If there is one unusual sporting event that I look

forward to every year, it would be the Nathan's hot dog eating contest.

We can call it a sporting event since it's been televised on ESPN for many years now.

Growing up, I remember watching Takiro Kobayashi win the hot dog eating contest year after year

and thinking that nobody could possibly beat him.

Then along comes Joey Chestnut, who has won the hot dog eating contest 17 times,

beating Kobayashi and dozens and dozens of other contestants along the way.

He is the current world record holder for eating an astonishing 76 hot dogs in 10

minutes. I genuinely don't think I've eaten 76 hot dogs in my entire life. What many people don't

know is that Joey Chestnut also holds 54 other world records in competitive eating. Well, what is a world record and how can you set a world record? Let's find out.
