Hello and welcome back to the Curious Kid podcast.

Something interesting happened just a few months ago in the fall of 2024.

Millions of people here in the United States were able to see something special when looking up into the sky.

Lots of people had a great view of it where

we live in New Jersey and throughout the northeast, but it was also seen throughout a large

portion of the country even as far south as Alabama. The special thing people were able

to see in the sky was something called the Northern Lights. What's so crazy is that the Northern Lights are usually only visible in a very small portion

of the United States.

That portion is Alaska and the extreme northern part of the country.

For a few days in the fall, when millions of people that usually didn't get a chance to see

the Northern Lights finally

had that chance, they were super excited. I saw so many beautiful photos of the Northern

Lights taken by people who had the chance to see them for the first time. It was simply

amazing. So what are the Northern Lights? Why do people sometimes travel a long distance to see them?

Where do they come from?

And also, what in the world's happened that allowed so many more people to see them in the

fall?
