Hey CultureGabFest listeners, June Thomas here.

0:03.7

The following episode is the audio version of a virtual live call-in show recorded on Wednesday, December 16th.

0:12.1

It's streamed live on Facebook and YouTube and now we're making it available as a podcast episode just for you.

0:19.6

So on with the show.

0:21.6

Hey, guys.

0:34.4

Hello.

0:36.5

Everybody ready to do this? Absolutely. Okay, we're going through the

0:41.7

holding hands and going through the surrealistic mirror together here. I'm Stephen

0:46.4

Maccalf and this is the Slate Culture Gab Fest live from lockdown edition. On today's show,

0:52.0

it's a mashup. Our old year-end right of a call-in show. We're making it a

0:57.3

kind of hybrid with our new live online format. We're going to take some pre-recorded

1:04.6

questions. We're going to answer some email questions and we'll see what comes down the pike

1:09.5

while we're doing this. Welcome

1:11.7

anyone who's tuning in over the internet. It's lovely to have you join us in our respective

1:17.0

homes. And of course, welcome to Dana Stevens, the film critic of slate.com. Hey, Dana.

1:23.8

Hey, Steve. I get to look and see what your facial exposure, what your actual reaction is to me calling

1:31.1

you Dana.

1:33.4

Which we could do any week, but we choose to hide behind Zoom curtains.

1:38.4

We did get, we got an email recently from someone objecting in high, high color to your deployment of Dana. And it was just

1:48.0

like, of all the things to complain about about our show, that's not the one. Or about Steve

1:52.7

McHoff. There was a lot of dudgeon in that email. It was really like, man, dude. Dana, well,

1:58.8

I guess we're assuming, though, Dana, do you feel disrespected by Steve's Danas? It's a crime against vowels, I tell you. I don't know what it's supposed to be offensive about someone playing with your name. Well, we talked about this when we talked about dad jokes one week, right? I feel like that is the ongoing dad joke of our show. And so how can you say no? I love it. It's so true. I think you're on a tiny little delay, Dana, because when I asked you what you make of me calling you, Dana, you were totally stone-faced for a second, and my heart just sank. I thought this show's dead before it even started. And of course, Julia Turner is the deputy managing editor, the LA Times. Hey, Julia.
