January gets a bad rep.

It doesn't have a spring in its stamp.

The promise that a hot girl summer holds.

And it arrives when you're perhaps a little sluggish and tired from the decadence of December.

But it is the month of feeling inspired and fun of resolve to try something new.

But where to start?

My cultural news resolution is always the same, which is that I like to try and watch every

Oscar film every category.

You know, I want to be so emotionally invested by the time it gets to February

that I've seen every best documentary, sure.

I'm like ready for the Duke Houghton original score.

So that's what I like to do with my January.

We asked music and features writer Sam Wolfson,

the Guardian's Arts Editor, Alex Needham, and film critic, Ellen E. Jones,

to give us their guide to all things culture in 2023.

I think it's the same I always have, which is just to read more books,

which is something I always have great intentions with and then never end up doing.
