We are reading the Gospels this school year, and today is Day 161 of this journey.

We are reading from the Gospel of John, specifically chapter 3 versus 22 through chapter 4 verse 3. And in this section, we are going to hear the final witness of St. John

at the Baptist. Now, as always, I'm reading from the New American Translation of the Bible,

but before we dive in, let's pray.

In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your spirit, and they shall shall be created and you will renew the

face of the earth. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John, chapter 3 verses 22 through chapter 4 verse 3 after this

Jesus and his disciples went into the region of Judea where he spent some time with them baptizing

John was also baptizing in anon near Salem because there was an abundance of water there

and people came to be baptized for John had not yet been imprisoned. Now a dispute rose between the

disciples of John and a Jew about ceremonial washings. So they came to John and said to him,

Rabbi, the one who was with you across the Jordan to whom you testified, here he is baptizing

and everyone is coming to him. John answered and said, no one can receive anything except

what has been given him from heaven.

You yourselves can testify that I said that I am not the Messiah, but that I was sent before

him. The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The best man who stands and listens to him rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's
