Hey, Sprouts, welcome back to the podcast where we are reading through the Gospels this school year.

We are on day 140 and in the Gospel of Luke, although coming to the end of it pretty soon, today we'll be reading chapter 19 verses 1 through 27, where we will meet one of my favorite biblical characters,

Zechias. I am reading from the new American translation of the Bible, but before we start,

let's pray. In the name of the Father and of

the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in

them the fire of your love. Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created, and you will renew the face of the earth.

Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke, chapter 19, verses 1 through 27.

He came to Jericho and intended to pass through the town.

Now a man there named Zekees, who was a chief tax collector and also a wealthy man,

was seeking to see who Jesus was, but he could not see him because of the crowd,

for he was short in stature.

So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree in order to see Jesus, who was about to pass that way.

When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said to him,

Sekees, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house. And he came down quickly and received him with joy. When they saw all this, they began to grumble, saying, he has gone to stay at the house of a sinner. But Zakias stood there and said to the Lord, behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor.

And if I have exhorted anything from anyone, I shall repay it four times over.

And Jesus said to him, today salvation has come to this house because this man too is a descendant of Abraham.

For the son of man has come to seek and to save what was lost.
