We are reading the Gospels this school year.

We are on day 109 of this journey in the Gospel of Luke, and today we'll be reading chapter 2 verses 1 through 20, where we will hear

about the birth of Jesus. Now, I'm reading the New American translation of the Bible. I encourage you to

follow along and take notes, but also join me in prayer. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke, chapter 2, verses 1 through 20.

In those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled.

This was the first enrollment when Cantarius was governor of Syria.

So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town.

And Joseph went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth to Judea,

to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child,

and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling claws and laid him in a

manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were shepherds in that region
