Hi, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, May 26th. Depending on where you live, you're either celebrating the solemnity of the ascension of our Lord, or the feast of the Italian priest, St. Philip

Neri, who lived in the 16th century. I'm Jonathan Texera, one of your special guests this week. My wife, Amanda, and priest, St. Philip Neri, who lived in the 16th century. I'm Jonathan Texera, one of your

special guests this week. My wife, Amanda, and I started a company called Wallet Win, to teach Catholics,

0:44.4

like you, how to understand money like God does and use our money as faithful disciples of Jesus.

We're talking about money this week. Yesterday, we learned about saving and investing our

0:55.9

money. Today, we're going to learn how Catholics spend our money. When we think about how we use

1:01.7

our money in our daily lives, spending is probably what comes to mind most. When we buy food or

1:07.8

clothing, pay the electricity bill, or buy someone a birthday present, we are

1:11.9

spending money. God and the church have a lot of good things to teach us about how to spend our

money as Catholics. If you haven't heard about that before, don't worry. A lot of people haven't.

1:22.3

But that's exactly what we're going to learn about today. God wants us to be careful spenders. Verse 29 of chapter 14 in the

1:31.0

book of Proverbs in the Bible teaches us, he who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he, who has a

1:38.9

hasty temper exalts folly. Other translations of the Bible use the words patient instead of slow to anger,

1:46.4

or impulsive instead of having a hasty temper. That would make it read,

1:51.3

He who is patient has great understanding, but he who is impatient exalts folly, or foolishness.

1:58.9

If we apply this lesson to money, God is teaching us that it's foolish to spend

2:03.4

money as soon as we think of something to buy. If we do that, we spend all our money and have

2:08.3

nothing left when we want it or need it the most. I learned this lesson the hard way when I was a kid.

2:14.7

Whenever I got my allowance or birthday money or money for doing extra chores,

2:19.6

I spent it right away. If I got money on Friday, it was probably gone by Sunday. My mom and

2:26.1

dad said my money was burning a hole in my pocket. We were going on vacation in a few months,
