Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Thursday, April 7th, 2022. This week we are talking about the sin of greed on the Catholic Spouts podcast. We've already talked about how greed is loving possessions and money too much. Also, we've talked about how greed causes us to not look to God, to think that we can take care of things ourselves. We no longer

trust God. We also look at how Jesus rejected greed during his life. And today, we're going to

look at the final words that Jesus said,

well, he was on the cross. These are words from a different gospel account, and they also speak

directly to this particular sin, the sin of greed. So shortly before Jesus died, he said,

Father, into thy hands, I commend my spirit. And this, of course, is said

right before he lowers his head and dies. We've talked in other podcast episodes about how

Jesus gave everything when he died on the cross. He was stripped, his friends abandoned him.

He had no possessions, no honor. Even moments before he died, he gave his favorite thing in the whole world,

his mother to his disciple. He gave us his mother. So he had nothing.

The only thing that he left those very final seconds was his spirit.

And even that, he handed over to God.

So he had nothing.

Now this talks to us about how Jesus was willing to empty himself out all the way.

He gave everything. Of course, it is the ultimate example of generosity, of giving everything, pouring

out everything, saying everything that I am is a gift,

I will give everything that I am away freely.

So let's reflect on that.

And Venerable Fulton Sheen looked at these words that Jesus said on the cross,

and he once again pulled out two lessons for us to reflect on.

So we're going to talk about the first of those lessons today.
