| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:31.5 | Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Monday, March 14th, 2020. Now, all Lent, we have been talking about the seven deadly sins. We've already talked about anger. Last week, we talked about envy. And this week, we are talking |
| 0:39.4 | about pride. Now, oftentimes when people talk about sin, they start with pride and for good |
| 0:45.9 | reason, because pride is really the seed or the frame of mind that leads to all of the other sins. So pride is simply thinking that |
| 0:58.3 | that I can take care of myself, that I am good or better than other people, and above all else, |
| 1:06.2 | that I don't need God. That, in fact, I might know better than God. So that is the sin of pride. |
| 1:14.6 | We see the sin of pride really lead to the original sin that we all inherited. Think back to |
| 1:23.3 | the Garden of Eden, right? Adam and Eve are perfectly happy. They have everything they need. |
| 1:29.2 | They have a great relationship with each other and with God. But then Satan enters, right? |
| 1:35.5 | You know, and he, with a few words, he's able to convince Eve to take the apple, to eat it, |
| 1:41.6 | to give it to Adam, so he eats it too. Now, what was the sin that he |
| 1:46.1 | played on? He played on the sin of pride, right? He said, oh, you know, God knows if you eat from |
| 1:53.1 | this tree, you'll be like him, right? Your eyes will be open. And so even though God had told them |
| 1:59.3 | clearly, there was no misunderstanding. Do not eat from this tree, Eve thought that she knew better. And so did Adam. We know better, right? And so we can take care of ourselves. And so that is the sin of pride. Every time that we know something is a sin, but we think, well, |
| 2:20.4 | you know, I know better than the church or I know better than God. And he doesn't understand this |
| 2:26.3 | situation than it is the sin of pride. And the really crummy thing about the sin of pride is that it can ruin even good things. |
| 2:38.3 | You know, so for example, let's say that you have a neighbor who, you know, is elderly and needs help |
| 2:43.0 | with their yard, and you go over there and you start raking all of their leaves, you know, |
| 2:49.1 | you do it all. And really, you are a tremendous help to them, |
| 2:51.8 | right? But then the whole time you're doing it, you're thinking, you know, I'm so much better |
| 2:56.6 | than my brother and sister. They're inside watching TV. I'm the best. They're so lucky to have me. |
| 3:02.6 | Look at this. Everyone's going to come by and say, wow, he's so awesome, right? And it's hard not to have those feelings |
