| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:40.3 | Hey there, sprouts. Today is Thursday, March 3, 2022. Today is also the feast day of one of my favorite saints, an American saint, St. Catherine Drexel. St. Catherine Drexel was born in Philadelphia, and she was an heiress. Now, maybe you know what that means, but that means you're a girl who is born to a fabulously wealthy family, like |
| 0:45.2 | mind-bogglingly wealthy. And she could have done anything she wanted. She could have lived a very |
| 0:51.8 | sinful and self-indulgent life, but she also really loved |
| 0:55.2 | Jesus. And so she decided that even though she had millions and millions of dollars, she inherited |
| 1:00.4 | from her father, she was going to be a nun. So she became a nun. She founded an order. And with that order, |
| 1:07.8 | she spent those millions of dollars serving people like Native Americans |
| 1:13.3 | on reservations that didn't have access to education or health care and even African Americans |
| 1:19.8 | in the South who didn't have schools either. She spent all of that money loving them, |
| 1:25.3 | praying for them, and welcoming sisters who serve these |
| 1:29.1 | communities with her. |
| 1:30.4 | They met some really terrible situations where people hated them just for helping these |
| 1:37.0 | minority groups. |
| 1:39.0 | She is a great example of love and a great example of resisting the temptation to be greedy or to build up this |
| 1:47.7 | life of comfort for ourselves just because we can. So this week on the Catholic's Prouds podcast, |
| 1:54.6 | we are talking about the seven deadly sins. We're using the book Victory Over Vice by |
| 2:00.3 | Venerable Fulton Sheen. And so we're talking |
| 2:02.8 | about anger. And we've talked about how anger can be good, but when it turns to hatred, |
| 2:08.2 | it's a sin. We talked about how the only way we can conquer hatred is by smothering it with |
| 2:13.7 | love and mercy, which is exactly what Jesus did from the cross. And we hear Jesus say from the |
| 2:19.9 | cross, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. Now, this simple sentence actually |
| 2:27.2 | offers us a powerful example of how Christ deals with anger and also how we should. |
