Hey there, Spouts. Today is Tuesday, February 15th, 2020.

This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are talking about sin.

Yesterday, we discovered the definition of sin,

which is something that either wounds or breaks my relationship with

God and other people. If we do commit a sin that wounds that relationship, it's a venial sin.

If we commit something that breaks that relationship, it is a mortal sin. And of course, in order for it to be a sin, we need to know

that what we are doing is wrong. Another definition of sin that I really like is when we choose what we

want over what God wants. So let's turn to the example of Judas. Now, Judas, as I'm sure you know, was one of Jesus's

12 apostles. He was part of that inner circle that was able to see Jesus' miracles up close, that

received direct instruction from Jesus Christ, and that was eventually sent out in mission to heal,

to cast out demons in the name of Jesus Christ.

He was one of those men.

Also, Judas, just like Peter and Andrew and Philip and Nathaniel,

he was called by name to follow Jesus.

Unfortunately, we don't have the story of Judas being called to follow Jesus.

Instead, from the very beginning, when we hear Judas's name, we hear that he was the one who

betrayed Jesus. Now, let's talk a little bit about what we do know

about Judas. We don't know anything about him growing up, but we do know his role among these 12

apostles. We know that he was given the task of keeping the purse. Now, while Jesus was traveling around doing his public ministry, they needed money to live on,

to buy food or just to take care of their basic needs.

So people would make donations to support Jesus while out on his public ministry.
