| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:30.3 | Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, February 8th, 2022. Today is also the feast day of one of my personal favorite saints, St. Josephine Bakita. St. Josephine Bakita lived less than 100 years ago. She was born in the Sudan into a |
| 0:41.3 | happy family, and the Sudan is in Africa. However, when she was still a young girl, she was kidnapped |
| 0:47.6 | from her home by Arab slave traders. She was forced to walk hundreds of miles across the desert barefoot before she was |
| 0:56.1 | sold into slavery. She was sold to many different enslavers who treated her terribly so |
| 1:03.0 | terribly that she forgot her own name and was given the name Bakita, which means lucky, |
| 1:09.1 | lucky to have survived. Eventually, one of the families that owned her |
| 1:14.3 | fled the Sudan because of a civil war happening there, and she was taken with them to Italy. |
| 1:20.1 | Well, there, she was sent to a convent to take care of one of the children in the family, while the family |
| 1:26.2 | returned to the Sudan. And it was there at that convent that Josephine met Jesus Christ. And she |
| 1:34.7 | recognized Jesus present in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the altar as the master whom she had |
| 1:42.0 | been craving, whom she had identified in the world all of these years, |
| 1:47.6 | whom she knew had been with her on this horrible journey, but she claimed she would never have |
| 1:53.9 | changed anything because it brought her there to find Jesus. She said that even when she was a slave, |
| 2:02.8 | she would look up at the stars at night and know that there was a great master, a great God who desired to know her. So when her |
| 2:10.6 | enslavers came to take her back to the Sudan, she refused to go. And since slavery was illegal |
| 2:17.0 | in Italy, eventually she was freed. She became a nun. |
| 2:20.8 | And she became such a powerhouse reminder of the power of forgiveness, saying that even if the men who had taken her from her home would appear that day, she would kneel and kiss their feet, thanking them for all the |
| 2:35.6 | terrible things that happened because it brought her in the end to Jesus. St. Josephine |
| 2:41.9 | Bakita pray for us. Now, today we are taking up the whole armor of God, as St. Paul wrote to the |
| 2:50.2 | Ephesians in chapter 6 of his letter, |
| 2:53.0 | now there are many pieces of this whole armor of God. |
