You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

Hi there, sprouts. Today is Tuesday, February 1st, 2022. My name is Sister Sidney Moss. I am a daughter of Mary Help of Christians, more commonly known as the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco. And this week we're talking about the idea of vocation. The word vocation comes from a Latin word, vocare, which means to call. All of us are called

0:48.0

to holiness. That is the fundamental vocation that every single baptized Christian has, to be holy, to become saints

0:57.6

with a lowercase S, and hopefully a few of us will also become a capital S saint.

1:04.9

But another vocation each of us has is the specific way that we become holy.

1:14.5

The path that God is calling each of us has is the specific way that we become holy. The path that God is calling each of us on,

1:21.3

that will be the easiest way for us to get to heaven. Now, most of you will probably be called to the vocation of marriage, which means that by loving your husband or wife and your children,

1:27.4

that will be your path to heaven.

1:29.3

Some of you will be called to religious life or the priesthood, by serving the people and your community that will be your path to heaven.

1:39.3

Some of you may even be called to be consecrated virgins, meaning that you won't belong to a religious community, but you'll give your whole life to Christ and serve others out of love for Him.

1:53.6

Some of you may be called to live a single life, but always dedicating everything you do to the Lord.

2:04.5

So it always has to be, how am I going to serve God and serve others? Because our vocation just isn't about what I want to do. It's what God wants

2:12.2

me to do and for the good of the people around me. So today I want to talk to you about vocation through the

2:19.8

life of St. Mary, Mozzarello. Now, that might be a new name for most of you. So let me say it again,

2:26.8

St. Mary Mozzarello. Notice, Mozzarello is her last name, not Mozilla. That's a cheese.

2:35.0

This is St. Mary Mozreillo. She was our first Silesian sister. In 1872, St. Mary Motsarillo and a group of women

2:44.2

became our first Silesian sisters, and this August 5th, 2022, will be celebrating 150 years of the foundation of our institute.

2:56.1

So this is a really big year for all of us.

2:58.9

But back to St. Mary Mazzarello.

3:01.1

She was born in a very small village in northern Italy called Mornese.

3:06.1

When she was alive and even today, there's only about 1,000 people who live there,

3:11.6

very small village.
