| 0:32.1 | Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Thursday, August 26, 2021. All week we have been talking about the eighth and final beatitude. |
| 0:38.0 | Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |
| 0:45.5 | We've already looked at two saints and seen that their lives included joyful suffering out of love for Jesus. |
| 0:49.9 | And those saints were St. Rose of Lima and St. Louis King of France. |
| 0:55.0 | And we've also talked about the gift of suffering and how the Christian life is a battle. |
| 0:59.2 | Now, today, we are going to talk about honor. |
| 1:04.6 | Now, there are two types of honor that we can pursue with our lives. |
| 1:10.6 | There is honor that the world gives us, and there is God's honor. Now, what are some examples of honor in the world? |
| 1:14.8 | Well, there are many types. We can be honored because we're really fast at running, or because we're |
| 1:21.4 | excellent at math, or because we're just a hard worker, or because we're excellent at the job that we've taken on or |
| 1:28.9 | because we're a great babysitter or a great cook. There are many ways that we can be honored |
| 1:35.0 | and it feels good to be honored. Who doesn't like to have a trophy or to hear applause |
| 1:40.9 | after you've done something? It is good to know that the people around you appreciate |
| 1:46.3 | what you have done and that they value you because of it. However, there's a problem with honor |
| 1:55.2 | in this world. Sometimes the honor that this world gives us, whether it's because we're smart or athletic or funny, it can't become a distraction. |
| 2:08.1 | We can begin to dedicate our whole lives to feeling more honored, to becoming faster at running or smarter or better at the work that we do. |
| 2:21.6 | And it can just become the whole focus of our life. |
| 2:26.1 | Now, it is good to be smart. |
| 2:27.9 | It is good to make your body as strong as possible. |
| 2:31.5 | It is good to be good at the work that you do. |
