Hey there, Sprowds. Today is Thursday, July 15th, 2021. All week, we are talking about the second beatitude, which is, blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

We've already talked about how Christ sees your hurts,

and we need to run to Jesus alone for comfort.

We've talked about repentance,

and how the tears we cry as we repent are important.

Yesterday we talked about St. Ketiri Tekawitha, who lived out this beatitude.

And today, we are talking about how we need to work on not being addicted to good feelings.

Now, maybe that sounds like a funny idea that we can be addicted to feeling good,

but I want you to evaluate how many times a day you make decisions. We all make decisions many, many times a day. What will I eat? What will I wear? What will I watch on television? Where will I go? What will I play with at the

park? How far will my bike ride be? Right? We always make decisions. And it's good and it's good to guide

our decisions based on what we like or what will make us happy. However, when we come to bigger, more important decisions,

if the only thing guiding us is what makes us happy,

we will have a very difficult time following Jesus.

Now remember, it's good to be happy, but just surface kind of happiness doesn't last. For example, taking a big bite of birthday cake. Hmm, taste good. Makes me

happy. But it's not going to make me happy

forever. Also, watching a television program I enjoy. Yeah, well, I'm sitting there, I'm happy

and I'm enjoying it. But when it's over, I still have the same problems I had before. What we're looking for as followers of Jesus Christ

is something more than happiness, something more than that shallow feeling that fades as soon as

we're hungry again or as soon as we're bored again. We're looking for peace. And peace

is not a feeling. Peace is something that we can only find when we surrender, when we let go of

just chasing what we want and what we like, and instead follow God's will.
