All week long on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are going to be talking about a group of incredible saints who just happened to all be Latinos. So these saints come from areas of this hemisphere, of Central and South America.

Most of them spoke Spanish, although some spoke other languages. But we can

roughly say that this whole group come from the Latino culture. So recently we launched a new

book called Great Latino Catholics. These saints come from that book. So we're going to share

their incredible stories. But if you want to also

see a really beautiful portrait of these saints so that you can grow closer to them, you can

find that book in our shop. So the first thing we're going to talk about today is a saint from

Peru, a very famous saint, maybe the only one that you've heard of this week,

but her name was St. Rose of Lima. Now, St. Rose of Lima lived in the 1500th, so a very long time ago.

Her father was a soldier from Spain, but her mother was a native indigenous person in Peru.

Now, the very first thing that many people noticed about Rose, first thing that her mother

and the servants in her household noticed, was that she was beautiful, beautiful.

In fact, they gave her the nickname Rose. That was in her baptismal

name, but they gave that to her because she was so strikingly beautiful. Also, when she was

just born, a servant in the household had a vision that she actually transformed into the most beautiful, pure Rose, which was

pretty prophetic about the life that she would live.
