You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

Hey there, Sprouts. Today isruz. Today is Friday, March 19th. It is also the solemnity of our great protector from heaven, St. Joseph. And so that's right, today is a solemnity. You can take a break from your Lenton resolutions and even eat meat today if you want to.

0:53.5

So all week we have been talking about the saints who celebrate their feast days this week and marveling about how God can use all things for his glory.

0:59.1

He can use our broken families like we saw with St. Louis de Merrillach.

1:06.1

We saw with St. John and other Jesuit martyrs who died evangelizing the Native Americans,

1:12.2

that God can even use brutality and misunderstanding for his will to be done.

1:17.6

We learned through the example of St. Patrick, that God can even use something as evil,

1:22.5

objectively evil as slavery, to evangelize people.

1:25.9

And yesterday, through the example of St. Cyril of Jerusalem,

1:28.3

we learned that even though it can be hard to defend the truth of who Jesus was and why he came to earth, that God can use those pains

1:34.1

we experience in defending the truth to spread the truth and cement it at the foundation of our

1:41.4

church. Now today, through the example of St. Joseph, the universal patron of the church,

1:47.7

we are going to examine the hard parts of St. Joseph's life

1:51.0

and how God use these to be an example for us,

1:54.9

to form the family of Jesus Christ himself

1:58.3

so that we know better what is important for ourselves and for our own

2:03.8

families. Now, the first reality that we know about St. Joseph is that he was poor. Joseph was not a rich

2:12.3

man. He was a poor carpenter. We know this to be true because when he took Mary and Jesus to the temple to

2:19.1

dedicate them on what we celebrate as a presentation, they offered two turtle doves as sacrifice.

2:27.8

Now, why is that important? Well, because the law actually dictated that they should offer an

2:34.0

unblemished lamb.

2:36.4

But then in the law of Moses, there's a little note that says, if you can't afford that, you can offer two turtle doves.
