0:32.6

Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Today is also the feast day of an incredible American St. Catherine Drexel.

0:38.5

Now, all week, we have been reminding ourselves of the commitments that we have made for Lent,

0:44.8

and we are again reminding ourselves that everything we do for Lent has one goal,

0:48.0

and that is to make us more like Christ.

0:52.9

So all week we are looking at the example of the incredible saints celebrating their feast days this week so that we can remember

0:55.4

why we fast, why we pray, and why we give alms. We've already seen a powerful example of fasting

1:46.5

very young, but her father remarried a very wonderful stepmother. They were Catholic and even

1:51.6

though they were so rich, the Drexels committed themselves to serving the poor. They went to

1:57.7

all sorts of places to serve the poor. And actually when she was young, her father and her stepmother and her sisters, they went out to the American West and they visited people on American Indian reservations.

2:12.4

At the time, in American history before this, the Native Americans had been forced to leave their lands and move

2:19.3

on to government-run reservations. And while they were there, they were very, very poor. In fact,

2:26.4

poverty still continues to be a major problem on American Indian reservations. So St. Catherine
