| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:29.3 | Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Monday, January 11th, 2021. This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are going to be talking about the question that is central to all of us that are |
| 0:36.1 | Christians. And that question is this. Who exactly is Jesus Christ? |
| 0:44.7 | Now, just a couple weeks ago, we celebrated Jesus' birthday, businesses were closed, schools were |
| 0:50.4 | closed. We all gave gifts and decorated and hung tons of lights. Quite the party, |
| 0:56.9 | 2,000 years after someone was born. And I think that it's important now that we are getting |
| 1:05.0 | back into our normal lives to really think, well, why did we do all of those things? |
| 1:14.1 | Who exactly is this person who we are celebrating so much? And so that's what we're going to be talking about. Who is Jesus Christ? |
| 1:20.1 | Now also, this is not a question that we are asking for the first time. This is a question that |
| 1:24.7 | people have been asking about Jesus Christ since the very beginning. |
| 1:29.4 | The Pharisees were constantly questioning him, are you Messiah? Who are you? Are you one of the |
| 1:34.9 | prophets? Even his followers were asking him this. And the interesting thing about Jesus, |
| 1:41.6 | even though we know now, he is God. He was the Messiah. He didn't come |
| 1:48.6 | right out and tell everybody. After his baptism, he didn't crawl up onto the shores of the Jordan |
| 1:54.6 | and tell everyone to sit down and be quiet and then make a big announcement. Hey guys, I'm the |
| 2:00.6 | Messiah. He didn't do that. |
| 2:03.4 | And now there's good reasons why he didn't do that. But also, a lot of it has to do with |
| 2:11.5 | the way people thought, the way the people would have reacted in that time if he announced that he was the Messiah. |
| 2:19.5 | So all week we're going to be talking about the Old Testament because remember Jesus was a Jew |
| 2:25.7 | and everything that he said was understood in light of Jewish scriptures, which we call today |
| 2:32.7 | the Old Testament. We're also going to be talking about Jewish |
| 2:35.7 | culture. Remember, Jesus grew up as a Jew. He preached to the Jews. All of his close followers |
