Today is Wednesday, November 25th, 2020.

Today is also the feast day of St. Catherine of Alexandria.

Now, this week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are remembering just how thankful we need to be for our relationship with Jesus Christ. It is our number one possession. Even if everything else is

taken away from us, our money, our friends, even our family, a relationship with Jesus Christ can never be taken away from us

and is so valuable that we should be willing to even give up our life for it. And we have some

incredible examples of people that have done this already. We've already talked about two of them this week.

Blessed Miguel Pro died a martyr in Mexico. St. Andrew Dunglock and 117 others died as martyrs for

the Christian faith in Vietnam. We also heard the story of Our Lady of LaVang who appeared in Vietnam to those that were

fleeing persecution as Christians. We are so, so lucky to have such a loving mother just watching

over us from heaven. Now today we're going to go way, way back in history to the 300s. Today is the feast day

of St. Catherine of Alexandria. Now, she is a very interesting saint. And as is the case with a lot of

saints that lived a long time ago, her story is fantastic. Things that happened a long time ago, sometimes they can get

sort of mixed up with folklore, but you know what? That's okay. Because there is still a very

important lesson for us here. And so here is a story of St. Catherine of Alexandria. So first of all, if you know geography,

Alexandria is a city in Egypt. It is way up on the Mediterranean Sea in the north of Egypt. And Alexandria was

known for an incredible library.

It was there.

And of course, this was the time when books had to be copied by hand.

So a book was an incredible thing.

And it took a ton of work to put together and they were like very expensive.
