Today is also the feast day of St. Rose, Philippine Dushain.

Now, all week, we have been talking about the fact that Jesus Christ is truth and that if we live in Him, in His truth, we will be standing upon the sure foundation of God himself, our rock.

But we will also have the light of Jesus Christ, the truth, going out into the world to show us what to do, what things mean, what is true, and also to shine within us so we can

understand the truth of who we are. We have seen this happen through the examples of St. Margaret

of Scotland, St. Elizabeth of Hungary, and St. Agnes of

Assisi. Today, through one of my favorite saints, St. Rose Philippine Dushain, we are going to see

how important clinging to the truth with both hands is when life's hard and when things fall apart.

Now, St. Rose Philippine Duches lived at the end of the 1700s, the beginning of the 1800s in France.

She came from a wealthy family.

But if you know anything about French history,

you know that this was a hard time to live in France. She lived during the French Revolution.

If you've ever seen a guillotine, which is a execution device, that was invented during this time, and it was used to execute many, many people in the French Revolution, which was a very bloody conflict.

It also was a conflict that targeted the church. In France, through the French Revolution,

many church leaders were targeted. Churches

and convents were closed, and the church suffered. So this is the world the St. Rose, Philippine

Duchesne lived in. Before the revolution began, she answered a call to religious life and

entered a convent. Now, her parents did not want her to do this, but she refused. She stayed. She followed her

vocational call. But then the revolution happened. And even though she had fought so hard to be a nun,

her convent was close and she was forced to go home. And this would be the first of many things that St.
