Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Monday, October 21st, 2020.

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are plunging into the public ministry

of Jesus Christ.

We have been at our Jesus study for a couple of weeks now

with all sorts of background. And from here on out, everything that we talk about will be based

on specific stories from the gospel. So as you might know, the public ministry of Jesus Christ

started with his baptism.

Last week we talked about John the Baptist, who had been in the desert and was down by the

Jordan River preaching about repentance and baptizing.

So one day, Jesus went down there, and he stepped forward to be baptized. Now we're going to go to the

gospel. This comes from the gospel of Matthew and I'm going to read you specifically what the story is

and then we'll talk about some of the things. So here we go. Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.

John tried to prevent him saying, I need to be baptized by you.

And yet you are coming to me.

Jesus said to him in reply, allow it now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness then he allowed him after jesus was baptized he came up from the water

and behold the heavens were opened for him and he saw the spirit of god descending like a dove and coming upon him. And a voice came from the

heavens saying, this is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased. The gospel of the Lord.

So that is the account. Now, maybe you've heard it before. And the problem with

scripture is that sometimes we hear it so much that we stop thinking about it. And there's things

that we actually don't understand, but we don't stop to think about it. So I'm going to force you

to stop and think about it now. Now, the first thing that even John the Baptist said is weird, and we should see as weird too,
