Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Monday, September 21st, 2020. It is also the feast day of St. Matthew.

Now, we know that St. Matthew is one of the men chosen to be a close companion of Jesus Christ.

He was a tax collector before he left everything to follow Jesus.

And he also wrote the first gospel, the gospel according to Matthew.

Now, Sprout to this week on the Catholic Sproudouts podcast, we are going to continue to talk about Jesus.

We've already talked about how he puts on us this most important question.

Who do we say that he is?

We spent all last week wondering if Jesus was a real person and if they were historical facts and evidence to prove that he was real.

And guess what?

We found that without a doubt, he was absolutely a real person.

Now, this week, we're going to spend some more time in history and we're going to work to understand the world that Jesus lived in.

The world that Jesus lived in was very different than our world.

There's some things that you probably know, like there weren't cars or phones or computers.

But there's a lot of other things that you might not know.

Some of the most important things that impacted Jesus' life, his day-to-day life,

and also his death were the politics of the time.

He was Jewish and just understanding what it means to be a part of the Jewish faith is important. But also,

he lived during a time when the Jewish people had been conquered and were controlled by the

Empire of Rome. All of these things are very important and are also very different than what we deal with. We live in a democracy

where we elect our leaders and although it is imperfect, it is far better than the situation
