You're listening to Catholic Sprouts, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith.

Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Friday, March 20th, 2020. This week on Catholic Spouts, we have been talking about the sin of pride and the virtue of humility that stands opposed to pride. We've talked about how pride is telling God that we don't

0:41.5

need him, that I can handle it on my own. I'm strong enough and smart enough to do it all on my own.

0:47.8

Now, we have seen this very sinful and wrong idea play out through lots of incredible stories, through the story of David

0:56.6

and Goliath, through the story of St. Patrick, through our greatest example, Jesus Christ,

1:02.1

when he died on the cross for our sins. And yesterday we looked at the powerful intercessor,

1:08.6

St. Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus. Now, today we are going to wrap this

1:15.0

all up with the most important concept. And it's this. When we live a life of pride, when we truly

1:25.2

believe that there is nothing bigger or stronger than I am, that I can

1:30.3

handle it on my own, that I'm smart enough and brave enough to do anything all on my own.

1:37.2

When we live that way, life is boring. Life is boring because you're never going to do anything bigger than you. And now I

1:50.6

love you, sprouts, but you are not that big, especially not when you compare yourself to God.

2:00.2

Now on the other hand, when we choose to live humbly, meaning we honestly

2:05.5

understand who we are, what we're capable of, when we honestly understand that, we don't think

2:12.1

we're lesser than we are, but we know that there are things bigger than we are. When we live this way, then life is a

2:21.5

great adventure. Then we will be called to tackle things that we thought were impossible.

2:28.5

We'll dare to go places that we never would have dreamt to go. Now, we can see this in every single saint that we have

2:36.3

talked about this week. St. David, David, King David, do you think on his own he ever could

2:44.0

have defeated Goliath? Impossible. Goliath fell because God was with David. And look what happened to David.

2:55.3

David went on to be the greatest king of Israel. He changed everything because God was with him.

3:04.1

Next, St. Patrick. St. Patrick was a slave. He barely escaped to his own freedom. And yet, God called him back to Ireland. He never would have gone on his own. Why would he? He was a slave there. And yet through God's power, the entire country of Ireland was converted. Amazing. Now, if he just lived in his own, I'm not smart

3:29.5

enough. I'm not brave enough. None of those things would have happened. And finally, St. Joseph.
