Hey there, Sproutes. Today is Monday, February 24th, 2020. This week on the CapEx Prouds podcast, we are going to get ready for Lent, and then we're going to dive in because Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday. So to do that, we are going to talk about what Lent is

0:40.4

and what you can expect to see, hear, feel, and do this year and every year during Lent. So first

0:49.3

of all, let's talk about what is Lent? Well, Lent is the 40 days running up to Easter. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday,

1:00.8

and it ends on Easter Sunday. Now, if you take out a calendar and you count all of the days

1:06.9

between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday, you're going to discover that it's actually more than

1:13.6

40 days. Well, why is that? Well, it's because the Sundays between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday

1:22.0

are not actually a part of Lent. Each Sunday, throughout the whole year, even during Lent, are many

1:30.3

Easters. So in a way, they aren't really part of Lent. And as you go through Lent, you can

1:37.4

continue your Lenton observances on Sundays, or you can take a small break and get back to Lent on the following Monday.

1:47.4

So that's what it is.

1:48.6

It is the 40 days before Easter.

1:52.0

Now, why did the church, in her wisdom, set apart these 40 days before Easter?

1:59.4

Why do we do all these different special things to prepare for Easter?

2:05.3

Well, Lent is a special time of repair. Now, think about a car for a moment. Imagine that you

2:13.0

have a car and you use it every single day, you take it on long trips, you do all sorts of things with

2:19.0

your car. Now, we know that a car doesn't just keep on going forever, especially not if we

2:25.3

ignore it. Now, there's lots of things that need to be repaired or fixed or even just maintained

2:32.9

with a car. You might need to get new tires, change the oil,

2:38.3

and if you get into a car accident, then you have to do all sorts of other repairs. In a very similar

2:43.8

way, we need to be repaired. We use ourselves, our minds, our souls, our bodies every single day all the time,

2:54.5

and we can get into accidents or get into bad habits. And during the rest of the year,

...
