| 0:58.4 | the thing that keeps us from it, and that is distraction. |
| 1:04.3 | Now, how can distraction be the enemy of the gift of counsel? |
| 1:15.0 | Well, I want to tell you a story first before we answer that question. And the story is about a character, a very well-known character from the Old Testament, |
| 1:21.2 | and that is the prophet Elijah. Now, the prophet Elijah lived during a time when the king of Israel was terribly corrupt. |
| 1:30.4 | He had led the people away from God and was instead leading them in the worship of false gods. |
| 1:37.7 | They had all sorts of priests and rituals and sacrifices, and Elijah was called by God to help wake the people up and realize that they |
| 1:47.4 | had left the God that had rescued them from Egypt. So during a particularly bad time, |
| 1:53.7 | Elijah retreated to really reflect on what God was calling him to do in this specific situation. So he went to a cave, |
| 2:03.5 | and he was there in prayer silently waiting for God to direct him. Now, while he was there, |
| 2:10.2 | all sorts of crazy things happened as he's waiting for the voice of God, he hears a loud wind |
| 2:15.9 | like a freight train. He hears a terrible earthquake that shakes the |
| 2:20.1 | earth and then a blazing fire. But he knows in all of these loud, big events, God isn't there. |
| 2:29.1 | That isn't God. Instead, he waits and scripture tells us that then there was a still, small voice, |
| 2:40.5 | and that was the voice of God. Now, what does this mean for us? Well, we live in a very loud and |
| 2:48.2 | noisy world. Not only is there physical volume, but there's so many |
| 2:54.4 | distractions for us. There's TVs and iPads and Nintendo switches. There's people sharing gossip or |
