Today is Wednesday, October 6, 2019.

This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, we are continuing to climb the ladder to holiness

by stepping on these various rungs that are the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We're talking about fortitude this week or strength.

And we've already talked about how fortitude gives us the strength to follow God.

And it also gives us the confidence in God.

Because if God is for us, then who can be against us?

And today we're going to go all the way back to the Old Testament.

And we're going to talk about the character of Samson.

Now, Samson was a judge.

And he comes from the book of judges.

Now, a little bit of very brief history for you here.

After God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, he brought them to the promised land.

But things weren't all sunshine and roses there. They had to fight many people. And when they

finally established themselves, they kept pestering God for a king.

They said all these other nations around us have kings. Why can't we have a king?

Well, God didn't want to give the Israelites a king because all too often, a king becomes too powerful and corrupt and evil, as we have seen many times in history.

So instead, before he finally gave them a king in King Saul and King David, before that he sent

them judges. Now judges were blessed by God and they oftentimes had the great spirit of God in them.
