| 0:17.5 | Hey there, Sprouds. Today is Tuesday, October 15th, 2019. It is also the feast day of St. Teresa of |
| 0:31.1 | Avala, who was a Carmelite, who worked hard to reform the Carmelite order. This week on the Catholic Sprouts podcast, |
| 0:40.6 | we are talking about the first gift of the Holy Spirit, which is fear of the Lord. Yesterday, |
| 0:47.5 | we talked about how this is the first step on the ladder to holiness. And it is what we need to receive from the Holy Spirit before we can move on to the other gifts. |

| 2:04.0 | So those are the two types of fears. |
| 2:06.2 | Now, what does it mean to have a fear of the Lord? |
| 2:10.6 | And why is it a wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit? |
| 2:14.8 | Well, according to the Catholic Catechism, fear is defined as avoidance of future |
| 2:22.1 | evil. Now, it's not necessarily that we're huddled in the corner worried and that we're |
| 2:27.9 | controlled by anxiety and fear. It's instead that we live in a way where we are cautious to avoid what is evil. |
