Hey there, Sprouts. Today is Tuesday, August 13th, 2019. This week on the Catholic Spouts

podcast, we are talking about the teaching authority of the Catholic Church. We're discussing

this because the Catholic Sprouts podcast aims to teach you, but not on our own authority.

We teach through the authority of the Catholic Church.

And the Catholic Church teaches through the authority of Jesus Christ.

Because our church alone was founded by Jesus himself.

And our church alone has a line of teaching leaders,

whom we call the Pope, that leads all the way back to Jesus himself when he gave the job to Peter

the Apostle. Now, today we are going to be talking about an important topic. This topic is why the

Bible isn't enough, at least not for the teaching of the church. Now before we get into this,

I want to make something very clear. The Bible is incredibly important. It is one of the greatest, most incredible

gifts that God has given us. We believe that God's word itself is what Holy Scripture is,

that God whispered into the ears of Moses when he wrote the books of the Old Testament,

of the evangelists, the four of them, Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John when they wrote the Gospels,

of St. Paul, when he wrote all those beautiful letters in the New Testament, that this is

truly God's word.

We not only believe that it was his word when they wrote it,

but it continues to be alive and speaking to us in a powerful way today.

Reading the Bible is something that every single Christian should do every single day. Reading the Bible is so, so important in our journey to knowing God and growing in holiness. Now, that is all great and so, so important,

but it remains so that the Bible is not enough when it comes to the teaching authority of the church.

It is important to understand this because there are certain Christian denominations that go only by the Bible.
