Hey there, Spouts.

Today is Friday, April 19th, 2019, and today is Good Friday, the day that we remember,

the death, the crucifixion, the great sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

This week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we have been talking about all things Holy Week. And, of course, in a very real way, they all lead to today.

We talked about Palm Sunday when Jesus entered Jerusalem.

We talked about all the events that happen at the Last Supper. We talked about

Jesus washing the feet of his apostles, Jesus instituting the Eucharist, and of course the procession

of the Eucharist out of the church where we could sit with Jesus all night long if we wanted to, and remember his

great agony in the garden and all the horrible events that happened as the night went on and

into the next morning. So now many events happen today. Of course, Jesus is questioned by Pontius

Pilate. Pilot can't find any guilt in him so he sends Jesus to Herod.

Herod isn't impressed with Jesus, so he sends him back to Pilate. Pilot eventually gives into the demands of the Jewish leaders and has Jesus first scourged, then he hands him over to be crucified.

Now, we know all these events.

Jesus carries his cross through the streets of Jerusalem.

He is helped momentarily by a man named Simon of Cyrene.

His face is wiped by Veronica, but for the most part, people are very cruel to him as he walks through the streets.

Then he is crucified outside of the city limits, and there are two other criminals crucified with him.

They are both common criminals.

One of the people crucified with him has a profound conversion as he hangs on the cross.

He identifies Jesus as the Messiah, and Jesus promises that this man will join him in paradise that day.

The other man, of course, is still filled with hatred, and he rejects Jesus.
