Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent.

Jesus' public ministry began when he headed down to the Jordan River and allowed his cousin, John the Baptist, to baptize him.

We read in scripture that when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water,

suddenly the heavens were open to him and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting

on him. And a voice from heaven said, this is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased.

Like all those before him in the Jesse Tree, St. John the Baptist played an important role in preparing the world to receive the Messiah. In fact,
