| 1:03.5 | St. John's father was born in a wealthy family, but when his father married a poor girl, |

| 1:11.5 | And so, he and his wife worked as weavers to make a living. |

| 1:19.3 | When John was 14, he started to work at a hospital for the sick. |

| 1:38.3 | Avala. Isn't it amazing how saints know other saints as well? St. Teresa was determined to reform the Carmelite order. |
| 1:48.0 | The Carmelites were supposed to be dedicated to God, prayer, and poverty, |
| 1:52.0 | but instead they lived with riches and distractions. |
| 1:56.0 | To show that things of this world didn't matter much, |
| 1:59.1 | they walked around in sandals, even in the winter. |
| 2:03.3 | And so they were called the scalced, or the barefoot. |
