0:24.2	Today is Friday, September 27th, 2020.
0:29.1	Today is also the feast day of an important French saint from the 15 and 1600s.
0:35.1	His name, St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent de Paul was a priest, but he was not always a
0:42.3	priest for the right reasons. He grew up very poor, and he saw the priesthood as a way to escape
0:49.3	poverty. And his first assignment was to go and serve the queen, so it looked like it was going to work out for him.
0:56.2	But God had other plans. After a series of events, St. Vincent de Paul had a deeper conversion,
1:03.6	and he realized that he had a specific calling to care for the poor and for the destitute.
1:14.2	He had a ministry to galley slaves.
1:18.7	Now, if you can imagine a boat where people are in the bottom rowing,
1:21.9	a big boat with many oars out the sides.
1:25.3	Many of those men down their oaring were slaves, and they were chained to their oar. So in a battle, when the boat
1:29.9	sunk, they died. St. Vincent de Paul cared to them, evangelized them, and when they needed to go
1:37.0	home and take care of things, he even rode for them when they were gone for weeks or months at a time.
1:43.3	He also had a special ministry with really rich ladies.
1:48.0	He had a way of convincing women who are very wealthy to spend their money on the poor,
1:53.5	to be generous.
1:55.0	And some of those women, he even convinced to give up everything and to join a religious
1:59.8	order that he founded. He cared deeply
