Today is the sixth day in the seventh month in the year of our Lord

2024.

My name is Sir Roland Paterlaught and you're listening to Saturdays with Sir Rowland

on Catholic Sprouts where every Saturday we discuss the art of dragon slain.

Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Maria Guretti,

who I know is a favorite saint of many of you, for she was a modern day saint who died as a young girl and slayed many dragons in her final days.

In the year of Our Lord 1902, when she was just 12 years old, she was brutally attacked by a 19-year-old boy named Alessandro,

who had become overcome by the violet dragon of lust.

When she refused him to protect her own purity, he was overcome by the blue dragon of wrath

and stabbed her many times.

She suffered greatly over the next 24 hours, but during all that suffering, she was more worried about her family and also forgiving the boy, who was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Maria's courage and great act of forgiveness ultimately led to the boy's conversion.

He became a model prisoner and was released early for good behavior.

Upon his release, he asked Maria's

mother for forgiveness, which she did, and he became a Third Order Franciscan. Marita would

later be canonized by Pope Pies I.15, and both Maria's mother and her murderer were there to

witness the canonization of this truly heroic young girl. St. Maria Guretti pray for us. We now continue our

series on the seven sacraments and how they give us the grace to slay the seven deadly dragons.
