| 0:00.0 | You're listening to Catholic Sprouse, the daily podcast for Catholic kids that strives to plant seeds of faith. |
| 0:14.8 | Hey there, Sprouse. Today is Monday, March 18th, 2019. We, of course, are still in Lent. And this week on the Catholic Spouts podcast, we are going to continue to talk about Jesus Christ as our great teacher through example. |
| 0:36.2 | Last week, we talked about the birth in early years of Jesus Christ. This year, |
| 0:40.6 | we are going to jump into the early part of his public ministry. Like we said last week, the majority of |
| 0:47.9 | Jesus' life is not recorded in the gospel. We hear a little bit about when he was born. We have one |
| 0:54.1 | story from when he was 12. And then it skips all the gospel. We hear a little bit about when he was born. We have one story from when he was 12, |
| 0:56.1 | and then it skips all the way until he was 30 and begins his public ministry. |
| 1:04.1 | The very first part of his public ministry, as recorded in all of the gospels, is the public baptism of Jesus Christ by his cousin St. John |
| 1:15.7 | the Baptist in the Jordan. Now, this is an interesting story to understand. In fact, even St. John |
| 1:24.3 | the Baptist was a little taken aback when it happened. If you remember, St. John |
| 1:29.6 | the Baptist was calling for the conversion of people. He was baptizing them. And the baptism was |
| 1:35.6 | symbolic of them choosing to turn away from sin, to repent, and to live differently after that moment. Now this is confusing and it was for St. |
| 1:48.0 | John the Baptist because, well, Jesus was the Messiah. He was sinless. So he really didn't |
| 1:55.1 | have much need of conversion and repentance. And also, Jesus as as the Messiah, was so much more powerful and |
| 2:03.6 | important than St. John the Baptist. St. John the Baptist knew that he was simply the one that |
| 2:08.4 | came before, that Harold, that called for the conversion to make us ready, prepared to receive |
| 2:15.6 | the Messiah. And yet, as a person that baptizes Jesus, it's almost like |
| 2:22.2 | he has a higher position or something. And of course, that's what St. John the Baptist says. He says, |
| 2:27.7 | I'm not even worthy to undo the sandal straps. And yet Jesus says, no, this is the way it's |
| 2:33.8 | supposed to be. So Jesus is baptized |
| 2:37.3 | by St. John the Baptist. So what does it mean that Jesus allows himself to be baptized by someone |
| 2:44.5 | lesser than him by a mere prophet when he is God? Well, it means a lot of things. First of all, it means that Jesus is humble, |
