ST PETER'S CHAINS PRAYER:

O God, Who caused St. Peter, the apostle, to depart, loosed from his chains and unhurt,

loose, we beg You, the chains of our sins,

and graciously keep all evils far from us.

Bless us this Lent and give us the faith of the martyrs.

We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

1:08.2	Bless us this lent and give us the faith of the martyrs. We ask this in the mighty name of
1:13.7	Jesus Christ, amen. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, amen. Well, we have been
1:21.8	all over the world and all through time once again this week as we talk about the lives of the martyrs.
1:29.4	Today we are in the 1900s in El Salvador, which is a small country in Latin America.
1:37.9	Now Oscar Romero has a very interesting story.
1:41.9	Some of the stories of the martyrs, it appears that they were always, you know,
1:47.5	happy to die for their faith, to offer witness. But that is not the story of Oscar Romero. In fact,
1:55.1	he had a deeper conversion even after he was already ordained a bishop and a priest.
2:04.7	So here's his story.
2:06.4	So Oscar Romero grew up in an affluent part of El Salvador.
2:10.5	He answered a call to the priesthood, studied seminary, and advanced in the rank.
2:16.1	He was named a bishop and then archbishop of San Salvador.
2:22.0	Through it all, there was a lot of corruption happening in El Salvador.
2:26.9	Now, the whole country and most of the wealth was controlled by a small group of people.
