ST PETER'S CHAINS PRAYER:
O God, Who caused St. Peter, the apostle, to depart, loosed from his chains and unhurt,
loose, we beg You, the chains of our sins,
and graciously keep all evils far from us.
Bless us this Lent and give us the faith of the martyrs.
We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

1:21.7 | during a very troubled time in England. A few years before she was born, King Henry VIII broke with Rome and declared |
1:31.5 | that he was a leader of the Church of England and great persecutions broke out. |
1:37.5 | Priests were killed, people were forced to sign documents denying the Pope, denying the Eucharist. |
1:43.5 | Then there was just terrible years of |
1:46.5 | turmoil and persecution. For a while, they had a Catholic leader, but then Queen Elizabeth |
1:52.2 | the first, who was King Henry the 8th's daughter, came to power, and with an iron fist, |
1:58.3 | she began to persecute Catholics and priests in England. |
2:03.9 | And so Margaret Clitherall was born into this situation. |
2:07.6 | In fact, she was raised in a Protestant household. |
2:11.3 | Because of the laws in England, she was forced to go to Protestant services every Sunday and had very little exposure to Catholicism at all. |
